The Wipers Times + Printing Press Demonstration

This event takes place at Calderdale Industrial Museum (a short walk from Square Chapel) and includes a printing press demonstration as part of the admission price.
The ‘Arab Printing Press’ was made by Josiah Wade of Halifax. Before the screening of The Wipers Times, Neil Franklin and Peter Varley will be replicating a page from the Wipers Times using a working example of the ‘Arab’ printing press.
This is the WWI story of Captain Fred Roberts who found a printing press in the ruins of Ypres and started publishing the satirical journal, `The Wipers Times’. The BBC drama features and all star cast including Michael Palin.
4.15pm – Doors open – Tea/coffee available
4.30pm – Halifax Great War Film Weekend officially opened by Peter Liddle
4.45pm – Short talk by Ben Brundell (CIMA) about the Arab press
5.00pm – Demonstration of CIMA’s Arab, printing a page of the Wipers Times. (Souvenir prints available for sale) – Neil Franklin and David Senior.
5.30pm – Screening of The Wipers Times
7.00pm – ‘Homemade meat and potato pie’ available (£5) before the next film in Square Chapel at 7.45pm
