The Arts Society Halifax presents

Susan Rumfitt: The Jewels of the Arts and Crafts and Art Nouveau Periods

Tue 14 Jan, 1:00pm at Red Brick Auditorium

Tickets: £9

The two periods of design known as ‘The Arts & Crafts Movement’ and The ‘Art Nouveau Movement’ were in existence between 1890 and 1910. Both were a reaction to the mass production that had developed as a result of the Industrial Revolution. This lecture will discuss how these two styles differed, yet ultimately wanted to bring change to a repetitive world of design. From the silver and gem set jewellery of the Arts & Crafts period featuring the work of Archibald Knox, to the exuberant designs of Lalique in the Art Nouveau category,  this lecture will uncover numerous fabulous names and their impact on jewellery design at the time.
