Michelle Shocked – Short Sharp Shocked
Sun 04 Mar, 7:30pm at Red Brick Auditorium
Grammy-nominated singer/songwriter Michelle Shocked, affectionately known as the Godmother of Americana, brings her unique blend of indie, folk, blues, and politics to Square Chapel Arts Centre. Not one to shy away from controversy, Shocked’s dynamic personality, frank storytelling, and captivating vocals promise intimate and unforgettable evenings of music, as she performs each of her first three studio albums throughout her Mercury Rising tour.
Short Sharp Shocked, Captain Swing, and Arkansas Traveler are arguably her most enduring works – and on her Halifax stop, Michelle will be performing Short Sharp Shocked in its entirety, with good banter and a few surprise numbers thrown into the mix.
Also known as the Mercury Trilogy on account of being released by Mercury Records, these albums have already enjoyed full outings as part of Shocked’s experimental cabaret show, Truth vs Reality, at the 2017 Edinburgh Fringe.
“A triumphant performance” – Variety
“Second albums can often be a disappointment, but this is a firecracker” – Q Magazine (on Short Sharp Shocked)
“It’s a show that leaves you pondering and debating what is right and wrong, weaving political debate with masterful songwriting and delivery” – The Wee Review
