Local historian David Glover explains how the Edwards family were influential in the development of Ripponden and Sowerby Bridge.

Born in 1812, as a young man Henry Edwards became the senior Conservative politician in Halifax, and a Borough MP.

A complex and controversial character, his quarrel with J E Wainhouse marred the latter part of his life.
