David Glover presents

Bronte Godmother: The Story of Elizabeth Firth

Wed 12 Sep, 2:00pm at Red Brick Auditorium

Tickets: £5 (£4.50 members) , approx running time: 90mins (including interval)

Born to a Halifax mother at Thornton, of a family friendly with that of Patrick Bronte, Elizabeth became godmother to Elizabeth Bronte in 1815, and to Anne Bronte in 1820; she was also proxy godmother to Charlotte in 1816. David tells how Elizabeth married Halifax-born James Clarke Franks whose father was curate at Sowerby Bridge, and details her interesting Halifax ancestors. He then speculates about a possible Calderdale origin for the surname Earnshaw in Wuthering Heights.
