Square Chapel’s Orange Box Choir Nominated for the UK’s Largest Diversity Awards

Orange Box Choir has been nominated for the Community Organisation Award at The National Diversity Awards 2020.

The Breathtaking Liverpool Anglican Cathedral will play host to this year’s awards, to be held on 25th September. Britain’s most inspirational and selfless people will come together to honour the rich tapestry of our nation, recognising individuals and groups from grass roots communities.

The prestigious black tie event recognises nominees in their respective fields of diversity including age, disability, gender, race, faith, religion and sexual orientation.

Jamie Eagleton who runs the choir says –

“Orange Box Choir is a singing for well-being group that through support and the power of music improves the quality of life of local young people with a variety of needs. The choir is a wonderful and diverse group of young people, support staff and volunteers from across West Yorkshire and is part of Square Chapel Arts Centre’s outreach programme. Our aim is to empower the young people to see that all things are possible and that they don’t have to be defined or confined by their environment, circumstances, disability or additional needs. They go out into the community to perform at events. They have help raise thousands of pounds for local charities and performed at various local hospices for people with life limiting conditions. The choir helps the young develop understanding and empathy for each other and their varied needs and circumstances. In the words of one of our young people “I used to come to Orange Box Choir to be supported and now I come to support others” There is a genuine care and camaraderie amongst the young people, they all support one another and refer to the group as being one big family. Seeing young people lacking in confidence being empowered to perform to their local community makes us all so proud. Some of the barriers the young members of Orange Box Choir have had to overcome in their lives is a testament to their resilience and determination, and is a positive example of what young people can achieve in a supportive environment.”

“Your nominations would mean the world to us in recognising the amazing achievements of this wonderful group of young people.”
