Square Chapel Arts Centre receives £950 from the ABS Foundation and Community Foundation For Calderdale to support the Calderdale Young Shorts in 2020
The grant will support the Calderdale Young Shorts project in 2020 which will be delivered in partnership with Calderdale Theatre School, Hebden Bridge Arts Festival and the lead partner Square Chapel Arts Centre.
Through targeted work with schools, Calderdale Young Shorts aims to teach children about playwriting, with opportunities for them to write their own plays and have them performed in two different theatres. Calderdale Theatre School (with Beacon Actors Company) led the creative element of the project, delivering workshops in schools, selecting chosen plays, organising rehearsals and developing and delivering two performances. This year the project was part of our Open Door schools outreach programme, supported with a grant from the Andrew Lloyd Webber Foundation. Open Door uses the arts as a tool to improve skills, knowledge and life experiences for children in Calderdale.
Square Chapel Arts Centre would like to thank this years funders the Andrew Lloyd Webber Foundation and The Bearder Charity and to also thank the ABS Foundation and Community Foundation for Calderdale for helping us to ensure we can support more young people by delivering this fantastic project again next year.
R Paton, Hebden Royd said “The children loved the workshops. They were able to take the ideas and framework for script writing then use this to produce their own.”
