Get Ready for an Evening of Movie Geekdom with Film Fanatic, Editor and Podcaster, Simon Brew

Top Secret! + Simon Brew Introduction

Saturday 7th September, 7pm

Movie buff launches two film magazines – and now he’s taking a live show out on tour!

Midlands-based film fanatic, editor and podcaster Simon Brew is hitting the road for SIMON BREW: FILM STORIES LIVE, a one-man show where he’s going to be telling some of his favourite tales from in and around the modern movie world. The show comes to Square Chapel Arts Centre in Halifax on Saturday 7th September from 7pm. Halifax is the first place on the tour!

Square Chapel Film Programmer, Dave Garratt said: “Simon Brew is an inspiration to us at Square Chapel because with his Film Stories and Film Stories Junior Magazines he thrives on giving paid opportunities to budding film writers for the first time. Plus, with his new book he has given me a wealth of weird film facts to bore the office with!”

Brew’s been reporting on the film industry for some time, and he found success when he launched the Den of Geek website back in 2007. He oversaw it until his departure in 2018, with it attracting over 10 million readers worldwide a month.

He channelled his love of movies into the launch of Britain’s newest film magazine, FILM STORIES. Each 100-page issue prides itself not just on its mainstream coverage of film, but also on the opportunities it offers upcoming writers and filmmakers. At least two writers in every issue are getting their first paid print writing work, and the magazine celebrates its first birthday this November.

Over the summer, Brew also launched FILM STORIES JUNIOR, which looks like the world’s first print film magazine exclusively for under 15s. What’s more, the magazine is primarily written by under 15s too, all of whom – in line with Brew’s ethos of not taking work off people for free – are rewarded for their efforts.

As he launches his new book, THE SECRET LIFE OF MOVIES, Brew for the first time will be bringing his show of movie nerdism around the UK. Dates are being added regularly, and the first shows take place in Halifax at Square Chapel Arts Centre (September 7th), Birmingham (September 14th) and Northampton (September 29th).

Editor and Podcaster, Simon Brew said: “Since I first came up with the Film Stories idea back in the summer of 2018, I’ve put out nearly 70 podcasts, published eight issues and counting of Film Stories magazine, and just launched Film Stories Junior. To take Film Stories out on the road with a show of geeky tales from behind the scenes of the movies is a new chapter I’m really excited about”.
