Yorkshire premiere of Gentleman Jack written by (Square Chapel Patron) Sally Wainwright

We were delighted to host the Yorkshire premiere of writer (and Square Chapel Patron) Sally Wainwright’s new BBC One drama, Gentleman Jack.

Crowds assembled to catch a glimpse of Sally Wainwright sweeping the red carpet alongside Suranne Jones (Gentleman Jack), Sophie Rundle (Anne Walker), Square Chapel Patron Natalie Gavin (Alice Hardcastle) and folk duo O’Hooley & Tidow (writers and performers of the Gentleman Jack theme tune).

After the much-anticipated screening and preview of episode one, O’Hooley & Tidow took to the stage for a live performance of the track ‘Gentleman Jack’…with audience participation of course!

The star-studded evening closed with a Q&A with Sally Wainwright, Suranne Jones and Sophie Rundle – hosted by journalist and presenter, Anna Foster.

Gentleman Jack also features another wonderful Square Chapel patron, Timothy West.

Director of Square Chapel Arts Centre, David McQuillan:

“It’s a great time for TV at the moment and it’s an amazing time for Square Chapel. We are currently running our first Up North Film and Television Festival so we were obviously immensely proud to see the premiere here in this building that we love. We’re incredibly honoured to be associated with the brilliant Timothy, Natalie and, of course, Sally, and to see them on the red carpet here was brilliant.

But actually, at a certain point all of that professional pride and the job just drops away and you become a fan, engrossed in an amazing programme, cocking your eyebrow with Anne Lister and laughing with 249 other lucky people. I loved it. It’s a brilliant, entertaining drama and I’m sure everyone else will love it too. And Halifax looked great, obviously!”
