MAYFEST 2008

Calling all real ale drinkers for this fantastically popular event organised by the Halifax and Calderdale branch of the Campaign for Real Ale. This is their fifth beer festival to be hosted by Square Chapel and it is expected to be as successful as ever!

Open from 12 noon to 11pm.

Admission £2 before 6pm, £3 after 6pm. £1 reduction for card-carrying CAMRA members.

Nijinski and the Yellow Piano

Although there were other influences at work it was the over-powering effect of the Ballet Russe which dramatically influenced art and design in the 1920s. In his presentation Robert Donald will review the Ballet Company's performances and the impact they had on the world of art and fashion in the West. There will be a chance to view a recording of the ballet Scheherzade after the talk.

A unique and brilliantly funny comedy sketch show that appeals to women of all ages and the men that have to live with them!

Hot on the heels of a hugely successful Edinburgh Festival and 2007 tour, which included sell out shows, this is your chance to see three 40- to 50-something ladies with a fresh and entertaining take on reaching that 'certain age' and all the trials and tribulations involved!

Written and performed by Jean Heard, Donna Flinn and Julia Munrow, three women who know more than most about juggling careers with demanding children, long suffering partners, too little money, overgrown gardens and never ending housework!

Mugenkyo Taiko Drummers

Thundering rhythms on huge taiko drums interweave with delicate bamboo flute and layers of subtle percussive soundscapes in a spellbinding display of fluid grace, precise choreography and sheer athleticism.

The concert captivates with its passion and intensity, journeying through a myriad of moods, from the heart-pounding excitement of Ikkyo, the dark brooding Otherworld, the hypnotic Phoenix to the happy festival atmosphere of Matsuri. Through their 10 years of rigorous touring, including many sell-out performances at Square Chapel, Mugenkyo have developed a gritty passionate style that is uniquely their own.
