“Thank you so much for helping to make last night’s event such a success, the feedback has been brilliant” Hannah Crank Creative Calderdale
Built in 1772, Square Chapel is a beautiful Grade 2* listed red brick Georgian Chapel and one of only a handful of square churches ever built.
In 1988 six local theatre lovers bought a rundown Square Chapel for just £25. Their vision was to turn it into a vibrant Centre for the Arts for professional artists and the community.
Fast forward to the present day and Square Chapel attracts over 40,000 people per year to events and activities and has gone from being run by volunteers back in 1995 to employing 26 full and part time staff.
Square Chapel has presented shows such as Mugenkyo Taiko Drummers; comedians Phil Jupitus, Rhod Gilbert and Jerry Sadowitz; folk musicians Ralph McTell, Maddy Prior and Waterson:Carthy; supports rising stars, new theatre companies and young talented musicians; provides the community with workshops, lectures and a versatile space, and is home to the Orchestra of Square Chapel, who performed here with Prunella Scales and Timothy West in October 2009.
We are pleased to be able to offer our building and its facilities for hire whether it be for a theatre show, private party, community event or wedding reception. Our unique building offers somewhere a little bit different, and with three very different spaces to choose from we can accommodate most types of events from small meetings to conferences with up to 220 attendees.
If you wish to stage your own theatre production or concert we have a wonderful auditorium with full theatre lighting and sound equipment backed by the expertise of our technical staff.
Our spaces are also great for parties whether it be our small intimate bar area or the much larger auditorium with a sprung dance floor and flexible seating options.
Add to that our friendly and welcoming staff and you have all the components for a memorable occasion.
Our hire rates are extremely reasonable and can be tailored to your exact requirements. We also offer reduced rates for charities and community groups and in most cases we do not charge for equipment.
“Can I say that you and your staff have been a pleasure to deal with.
Always polite and helpful, and very professional” Bernie Bertola, Snowgoose Writers Group
