Marketing and Audience Development Manager
Full time (37.5 hours)

Significant experience in a key marketing role in an arts environment is essential.

The successful candidate will provide strategic leadership to Square Chapel’s Audience Development Plan, and related projects. They will also be responsible for managing a small team to ensure the delivery of all marketing activity for Square Chapel’s programme. Excellent communication and I.T. skills are essential.

Visual Arts tutor (young people)
Square Chapel Centre for the Arts is a performing arts venue and registered charity (No. 700985) situated in the heart of Halifax, West Yorkshire. It is lead partner in an exciting new community outreach programme called Creative Communities (Stronger Together), working with schools, children, young and older people. Creative Communities uses the arts as a tool to reduce social isolation, improve cohesion and increase skills, knowledge and quality of life for the people taking part.

Square Chapel would like to recruit a freelance artist-facilitator to lead its visual arts classes with young people aged 11 – 16yrs.  The ability to teach a range of painting and drawing techniques, ideally supplemented with skills in printmaking, 3D and/or crafts is required for this post. Previous experience of teaching in the arts (in an educational or other setting) and of working creatively, successfully and inclusively with young people from a range of backgrounds and communities is essential. As well as supporting participants to develop their skills and knowledge in a fun and relaxed environment, these classes will deliver on a key outcome of Creative Communities: reducing social isolation and supporting young people to widen and improve their social networks. The role involves supporting the outreach team with monitoring and evaluation processes to ensure this outcome is achieved.

The sessions run term time, on Saturday mornings, at Square Chapel. Rate of pay is £65 per session, to include preparation time and travel. 

Creative Communities is supported with funding from the National Lottery, through the Big Lottery Fund until January 2018.

Digital Arts Tutor (young people)

As part this programme, Square Chapel will be working in partnership with Orangebox young people’s centre to offer a range of exciting new activities.  Orangebox is located just a few minutes walk away from Square Chapel and offers state-of-the-art facilities for young people.

As Lead Partner, Square Chapel would like to recruit a freelance artist-facilitator to lead new digital arts classes at Orangebox, with young people aged 11 – 16yrs.  The ability to teach techniques and skills in a range of digital mediums is desirable for this post, alongside practical knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (including InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator), Microsoft Office, Final Cut Pro X and Apple hardware.  Previous experience of teaching (in an educational or other setting) and of working creatively, successfully and inclusively with young people from a range of backgrounds and communities is essential.  As well as supporting participants to develop their skills and knowledge in a fun and relaxed environment, these classes will deliver on a key outcome of Creative Communities: reducing social isolation and supporting young people to widen and improve their social networks.  The role involves supporting the outreach team with monitoring and evaluation processes to ensure this outcome is achieved.

Orangebox Young People's Centre are currently looking for more talented people to join its team of Duty Managers and Team Workers.

Rate of Pay: £9.50p per hour
Hours of Work: varied and as required. This is a casual position
Shifts are approximately 4 to 6 hours in length

Duty Managers
are responsible for managing the building, its facilities, staff and volunteers during opening hours, whilst ensuring a safe and effective service for young people and other users.

Team Workers
are responsible for running workshops and delivering or facilitating activities to young people during members’ sessions, including overseeing the safe use of the skate park, bouldering tunnel and other facilities.  Team Workers must have a skill/talent which they can apply to run workshops or activities for young people.  

All applicants must have excellent communication skills, be reliable and trustworthy, and of course be passionate about engaging with young people.  

Successful applicants will undertake an enhanced DBS check.
