Volunteering at Square Chapel is a great opportunity to help this vibrant arts centre, be part of a community, as well as learn new skills.
Square Chapel for the Arts volunteers are needed for:
We need people to volunteer behind our friendly bar at Square Chapel, so if this appeals to you - get in touch. The bar serves alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, and is open before and during performances. It can be very busy but it is a lot of fun and full training is given. This is a really sociable volunteering role, with no heavy beer pumps and a simple till.
A volunteer usher provides the Square Chapel welcome we are proud of, checking tickets, looking after the audience during the performance and providing information on the show, as well as being aware of emergency evacuation procedures.
Serving teas and coffee
Volunteers serve tea and coffee from our refreshment station in the bar whenever we have a performance, workshop or a private hire.
In addition we are happy to have people help in the following areas:
Until the completion of the Cornerstone Project our planted areas and yard simply require a regular tidy up and weeding, this is done twice a month by a team of volunteers – would you like to help?
Perhaps you have a specific skill in these areas - would you like to volunteer your time? Ask for more information.
This role involves helping with the lighting, sound, backdrops, positioning of chairs, electrics, some general running around, helping theatre companies get in and out. Previous technical experience is useful, although full training will be given. These roles are approximately 6 hours, and you must be able to commit to the shows you sign up for. If you are interested in getting practical experience in theatre and art events, consider this as a real opportunity to do so.
How it works:
We need volunteers for a number of different shifts – weekdays and weekend including during the day as well as in the evenings. Volunteers are invited to indicate their preferences for performances and events at the beginning of each season, either for the bar, ushering, serving teas and coffees. Allocation is made as fairly as possible for that season (approximately 3 – 5 months), and all volunteers have these roles confirmed to them. Full training for all roles is given before any volunteering is undertaken. If you are interested in volunteering, or have any questions, please get in touch and we will do our best to get you into a role as soon as possible.
A typical volunteering shift is approximately 4 hours, this could be during the day or in an evening. If you are volunteering on the bar or the refreshment station you are entitled to a complimentary ticket for another performance at Square Chapel. As an usher you are entitled to watch the performance on your shift. All volunteers are entitled to two free drinks of your choice from the bar during your shift. Finally, Square Chapel Centre for the Arts will cover any travel expenses – based on the lowest form of public transport.
