Andrew Motion, Silver - Retun to Treasure Island
Thursday 31 May 8:00pm
Andrew Motion, Poet Laureate (1999-2009), introduces Silver his eagerly awaited sequel to Treasure Island, which features a cast of noble seamen, murderous pirates and tales of love, valour and terrible cruelty.
“Treasure Island is a book I have loved since childhood… Excitement, mystery, intrigue, suspense, pathos and human sympathy: Stevenson combines all these things. I have tried to do the same - in a story which honours his original genius, but at the same time sails its own course.” Andrew Motion
He also reads from his latest book of poems, The Cinder Path, Laurels and Donkeys, his acclaimed autobiography In The Blood - A Memoir of My Childhood and answers questions about his writing and the role of Poet Laureate. Followed by book signing. For adults and older children
“Compelling, simple and mysterious” Sunday Times
"Motion is a beautiful lyricist unpretentiously and precisely describing those things worth having even as he casts unsettling shadows across them" The Guardian
