Captain Murderer and the Morecambe Mermaid Captain Mermaid Theatre

theatre

Thursday 29 March 8:00pm

Pitch-black musical comedy of maritime myth coupled with a little-known shocker by Charles Dickens, exploring the real, hard lives of historical fairground freaks.

A washed-up mermaid ends up in a side-show, the last resort of a drunken clown and his foul-mouthed daughter. The troupe is forced into increasingly outrageous and demeaning performances, while alcoholism, drug addiction and sheer desperation tighten their grip.

A sinister visual feast, fastmoving parade of puppets, humour, masks, illusions, projections, burlesque queens and Geeks.

“As fiercely inventive and beautifully entertaining an evening’s theatre as I have seen in a long while, Captain Murderer and the Morecambe Mermaid’s mix of the hilarious and the macabre, the sinister and the sweet is close to irresistible. I don’t think there was a moment wasted, and the audience I saw it with absolutely lapped it up. It deserves to be seen and loved.”  Nick Lane, Hull Truck
