A Taste For Art

In 2003, the Supported Independent Living Scheme approached Inclusive Arts about running some arts taster sessions at Square Chapel, for adults with learning difficulties. With a grant from the Gartland Family Trust, administered by the Community Foundation for Calderdale, we were able to run a series of workshops between January and March 2004, under the title 'A Taste for Art'.

Working with community artist Jenny Ellis, twelve people had the opportunity to try lots of different art techniques and materials working within a theme chosen by the participants of 'past and present'. Work produced on the project was assembled to make a beautiful banner, which is currently displayed in the bar area at Square Chapel. Most of the participants expressed a desire to continue art making and enjoyed coming to Square Chapel. With this in mind, we are currently liasing with educational providers to run, in September, an adult education course in arts and crafts for people with learning difficulties.
