The Puppet Project
This is a project funded by the DfES and run by a School Improvement Officer from Heath Training and Development Centre in conjunction with the Ethnic Minority Co-ordinator.
7 Primary Schools in SRB6 (Whitehill, Beech Hill, St Augustine's, Mount Pellon, Warley Road, Parkinson Lane and Savile Park) took part in puppet workshops with a group called Pandora's Daughter. Inclusive Arts was contacted regarding helping document the project with 18 pupils from Halifax High School.
With Jason Offen, a video event who was worked with Inclusive Arts projects, David visited all 7 Primary Schools. He taught black and white SLR photography to the Halifax High students, while Jason taught filming techniques. Pupils from Halifax High interviewed the Primary School children on camera with the overall aim of improving confidence and speaking and listening skills.
This project was an excellent opportunity to reach and benefit a large number of young people and to make contact with a number of schools. At present we are running half day workshops for the 18 Halifax High pupils to make a PowerPoint presentation by selecting from the 360 photographs they took and to begin to edit the 7 hours of film they shot!
