Dil – Matters of the Heart

This multi-lingual arts project ran in 2006 and arose from discussion with the Healthy Living Partnership, who were looking for new and innovative ways of communicating with local Asian people about serious health issues which are prevalent in their community. The initial aim was to engage people in creatively exploring 'matters of the heart' which affect them, including high incidences of heart disease, diabetes, smoking and lack of exercise. We worked with people of all ages to create poetry, video, visual art, theatre and rap, resulting in a performance, DVD and published booklet of work. Contact Maria if you'd like a copy.

The project was very much a collaboration between Square Chapel, the West Central Halifax Healthy Living Partnership (HLP) and Chol Theatre, who provided many of the artists. The project was funded by Heart Research UK, The Healthy Living Partnership and the Big Lottery, with additional in-kind support from Square Chapel's Inclusive Arts programme.
